Heritage Sites in Ninh Bình
Ninh Bình(Di tích ở Ninh Bình)

Overview & history
Ninh Bình is an ancient land located at the southern gateway of the Red River Delta and the North. This place still retains many vestiges directly related to ancient civilisations in Vietnam such as the Tràng An culture, Hòa Bình culture, Đa Bút culture, and Đông Sơn culture. This land, which includes the former capital of Hoa Lư, was once the first capital of the centralised feudal state in Vietnam and was also the birthplace of four successive dynasties: Đinh, Lê, Lý, and Trần, marking an era of independence and long-lasting brilliant development. Ninh Bình possesses major religious architectural works such as those of Buddhism, Catholicism, and Mother Goddess worship, among others. The mountainous area of Ninh Bình was once a military base for the Trần and Tây Sơn dynasties. During the resistance wars against foreign invaders, this place had the Tam Điệp defensive line, Quỳnh Lưu resistance zone, Vũ Lâm royal camp, and the historic Hà Nam Ninh campaign. The historical, cultural, natural, and human characteristics have created for Ninh Bình a rich and diverse system of heritage sites, contributing to the development of Ninh Bình tourism. The Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex includes many sites with outstanding natural and cultural values and has been recognised by UNESCO as a mixed World Heritage Site.
Overview
As of 2025, Ninh Bình has more than 5,000 heritage sites, of which 283 are ranked as national relics, and 10 are classified as particularly important national relics, including sites belonging to the Hoa Lư Ancient Capital Complex; Tràng An-Tam Cốc-Bích Động Scenic Landscape; the historical and scenic site of Núi Non Nước; Đọi Sơn Pagoda, Trần Thương Temple, Trần Temple - Phổ Minh Pagoda, Keo Hành Thiện Pagoda, Xám Temple, Tam Chúc and Cổ Lễ Pagoda. Other Kings who are widely worshipped include King Lê Đại Hành, Triệu Việt Vương, Phùng Hưng, Lý Thái Tông, Trần Thái Tông, Trần Nhân Tông, Quang Trung, and others.
Heritage sites dedicated to Saints: Đức Thánh Trần Hưng Đạo and Đức Thánh Nguyễn Minh Không are the two most venerated and widely worshipped historical figures in Ninh Bình.
Heritage sites dedicated to Deities: mainly the deities of the four Hoa Lư guardian spirits, such as Thiên Tôn deity, Cao Sơn deity, and Quý Minh deity.

Religious architecture: Ninh Bình has been a Buddhist centre since the Đinh era, with many ancient pagodas such as Nhất Trụ Pagoda, Đọi Sơn Pagoda, Phổ Minh Pagoda, Bích Động Pagoda, and many large pagodas such as Tam Chúc Pagoda, Bái Đính Pagoda. The two dioceses of Bùi Chu and Phát Diệm in Ninh Bình were among the first places where Catholicism was introduced to Vietnam, so this area now has many Catholic churches.
Heritage sites dedicated to other notable figures: Generals, national heroes, founders of crafts, clan founders, village founders, and others.
