Pháp Lâm Pagoda
Đà Nẵng(Chùa Pháp Lâm)
Overview & history
Pháp Lâm Pagoda is a pagoda of the Northern School (Bắc tông), located at 500 Ông Ích Khiêm Street, Đà Nẵng City.
History
Pháp Lâm Pagoda was established as a meeting hall pagoda in 1934, initiated by the Đà Nẵng branch of the An Nam Buddhist Association. Architect Đặng Cao Đệ designed it in the East Asian architectural style. From 1970, the Đà Nẵng Provincial Buddhist Association pagoda bore the name Phúc Lâm. The pagoda has been undergoing major restoration since January 2005. It currently houses the office of the Đà Nẵng City Buddhist Sangha Executive Board. Each year, the pagoda welcomes tens of thousands of visitors, monks, nuns, and Buddhists for sightseeing, worship, and activities.
Features
The main hall (chánh điện) of the pagoda is solemnly arranged. The statue of Shakyamuni Buddha (Phật Thích Ca) seated in the lotus position is 1.10 metres high, and there are also two bronze statues of the Bodhisattvas Avalokiteśvara (Quan Thế Âm) and Mahāsthāmaprāpta (Đại Thế Chí).
