Đồng Đắc Pagoda
Ninh Bình(Chùa Đồng Đắc)

Overview & history
Ninh Bình is an ancient land located at the southern gateway of the Red River Delta and the North. This place still preserves many vestiges directly related to ancient civilisations in Vietnam such as the Tràng An culture, Hòa Bình culture, Đa Bút culture, and Đông Sơn culture. This land, home to the former capital Hoa Lư, was once the first capital of the centralised feudal state in Vietnam and is also the birthplace of four successive dynasties: Đinh, Lê, Lý, and Trần, marking an era of independence and long-lasting, brilliant development. Ninh Bình possesses major religious architectural works such as those of Buddhism, Catholicism, Mother Goddess worship, and more. The mountainous area of Ninh Bình was once a military base for the Trần and Tây Sơn dynasties. During the resistance wars against foreign invaders, this place had the Tam Điệp defensive line, Quỳnh Lưu resistance base, Vũ Lâm royal camp, and the historic Hà Nam Ninh campaign. The historical, cultural, natural, and human characteristics have endowed Ninh Bình with a rich and diverse system of relics, contributing to the development of Ninh Bình's tourism industry. The Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex includes many relics with outstanding natural and cultural values, which have been recognised by UNESCO as a mixed world heritage site.
Overview
As of 2025, Ninh Bình has more than 5,000 relics, of which 283 are classified as national relics, and 10 relics of special national importance, including those belonging to the Hoa Lư Ancient Capital Complex; Tràng An-Tam Cốc-Bích Động Scenic Landscape; the historical and scenic site of Núi Non Nước; Đọi Sơn Pagoda, Trần Thương Temple, Trần Temple - Phổ Minh Pagoda, Keo Hành Thiện Pagoda, Xám Temple, Tam Chúc and Cổ Lễ Pagoda. Notably, the Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex has been recognised as a natural and cultural world heritage site—the first and only dual world heritage site in Southeast Asia. Ninh Bình is also home to many archaeological relics from the Tràng An, Hòa Bình, Bắc Sơn, Đa Bút, and Đông Sơn cultural periods.

Other Kings also worshipped in many places include King Lê Đại Hành, Triệu Việt Vương, Phùng Hưng, Lý Thái Tông, Trần Thái Tông, Trần Nhân Tông, Quang Trung, and others.
Relics worshipping Saints: Đức Thánh Trần Hưng Đạo and Đức Thánh Nguyễn Minh Không are the two historical figures most frequently canonised and worshipped in Ninh Bình.
Relics worshipping Deities: mainly the deities of the Hoa Lư Four Guardians, such as Thiên Tôn deity, Cao Sơn deity, and Quý Minh deity.

Many pagodas in Ninh Bình are structured in the "front Buddha, rear Mother Goddess" style.
Religious architecture: Ninh Bình has been a Buddhist centre since the Đinh dynasty, with many ancient pagodas such as Nhất Trụ Pagoda, Long Đọi Sơn Pagoda, Phổ Minh Pagoda, Bích Động Pagoda, and many large pagodas such as Tam Chúc Pagoda, Bái Đính Pagoda. The two dioceses of Bùi Chu and Phát Diệm in Ninh Bình were the first places where Catholicism was introduced into Vietnam, so this land now has many Catholic churches.
Relics worshipping other notable figures: Generals, national heroes, founders of crafts, clan founders, village founders, and others.

The Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex is a comprehensive tourist site comprising world cultural and natural heritage recognised by UNESCO in Ninh Bình, Vietnam. Many scenic relics here have been classified by the Vietnamese Government as special national relics, such as the Tràng An Ecotourism Area, Tam Cốc - Bích Động tourist area, Bái Đính Pagoda, and the ancient capital of Hoa Lư. The Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex is located in four wards: Tây Hoa Lư, Nam Hoa Lư, Hoa Lư, and Yên Sơn, with the Tràng An core area covering more than 4,000 hectares, which is the special protection zone of the landscape.
