The Martyrs' Temple at the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield stands on the Hill F relic in Muong Thanh ward, Dien Bien Phu city — one of the 45 component sites of the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield special national relic complex.
History
Hill F witnessed some of the fiercest fighting of the Vietnam People's Army during the 1954 Dien Bien Phu campaign. The temple was inaugurated on 18 May 2022 at a construction cost of 105 billion VND, honoring the fallen soldiers and civilians of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield.
Architecture
The nearly 5-hectare complex follows traditional layered temple planning with three main spaces: an introductory space, a commemorative space with a contemplation courtyard and memorial lake, and the spiritual space — the main shrine built with a traditional timber structure. Visitors ascend 199 stone steps to offer incense; flanking relief walls patterned with bullet holes evoke the ferocity of the battle.

- Dress modestly; remove hats and keep quiet inside the main hall.
- Incense, flowers and offerings are usually sold right outside the gate; light an odd number of sticks (1 or 3).
- Most pagodas open from early morning to evening and are free to enter (some major sites charge a small scenic fee).
- Full-moon days, the 1st of the lunar month and Tet are very crowded; visit on weekday mornings for a quiet experience.
- Ask permission before photographing inside shrines; do not touch statues or altar objects.
